Beacons Bring the Brooms to New London

UMass Boston Sweeps Tri-Meet with Wins Over Saint Joseph and Colby-Sawyer

New London, NH (Sep. 20, 2025) – The UMass Boston volleyball team turned in a dominant performance at Saturday's tri-meet hosted by Colby-Sawyer College, sweeping both the University of Saint Joseph and the host Chargers in straight sets. 

Game 1: UMass Boston 3, University of Saint Joseph 0 

The Beacons wasted no time asserting control in their opening match, allowing just nine points in a commanding first-set win over the Bluejays. UMass Boston led statistically across the board, both as a team and through standout individual performances. 

  • Mary Denny led all players with 8 kills and added 2 blocks. 

  • Audrey Cofield tallied 16 assists and 4 of the team's 10 service aces. 

  • Josie Becker was highly efficient, recording 5 kills on just 1 error for a match-high .364 hitting percentage. 

Game 2: UMass Boston 3, Colby-Sawyer 0 

Despite a quick turnaround of less than an hour between matches, the Beacons maintained their high level of play. After a competitive opening set (25-20), UMass Boston tightened its grip, allowing just 26 points combined over the next two sets to seal the sweep. 

  • Paige Coulson led the offense with 9 kills and served 6 of the team's 14 aces. 

  • Mary Matthews picked up another 12 digs, bringing her season total to 239 – currently tops in the Little East Conference (LEC).
