Women’s Soccer Outlasts Colonels in Milton

Milton, MA. (September 17, 2025) – UMass Boston women's soccer (4-1-1) battled to a 3-2 road win over Curry College (2-4-1, 0-1 CNE) on Wednesday evening, powered by a brace from sophomore Sofia Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) and a goal from senior Sofia Roberts (Westwood, Mass.).

Curry opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Jovi Goldstein, but Schallmo answered before halftime with a curling free kick that slipped through the keeper's gloves. Moments later, Roberts converted a setup from Schallmo to give the Beacons a 2-1 lead heading into the break—her first goal since a three-goal season in 2023.

The pair connected again in the 69th minute, when Roberts found Schallmo at the top of the box. After an initial miss, Schallmo regrouped, beat her defender, and buried the game-winner for her sixth career deciding goal. Curry responded in the 78th minute to cut the deficit to one, but UMass Boston's back line held firm.

First-year goalkeeper Janiya Matier (North Easton, Mass.) made five saves on seven shots on goal to preserve the victory.

The Beacons return to action Saturday (Sept. 20) in their Little East Conference opener at Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
