MEDFORD, Mass. (September 10, 2025) – UMass Boston men's soccer (2-2-2) battled hard but came up short in a 2-0 loss to Tufts University (2-1-0) on Wednesday night, as the Beacons were held scoreless against a Jumbos squad currently receiving votes in the
United Soccer Coaches NPI rankings.
Tufts controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Beacons 11-2 and breaking through with goals in the 24th and 27th minutes from Ben Pensky and Xavier Canfin.
The Beacons found their footing after halftime, matching Tufts nearly stride-for-stride in the shot column (5-7) while creating more pressure in the attacking third.
First-year goalkeeper
Nolan McKenna (Norwell, Mass.) turned aside three shots on the evening, keeping UMass Boston within reach despite the early deficit. Offensively, sophomore forward
Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil) led the way with three of the Beacons' seven attempts.
The match finished with 10 fouls apiece and one booking, a late yellow card issued to Tufts' Mateo Bargagna.
UMass Boston now turns its attention north, traveling to Biddeford, Maine, on Tuesday, September 16, for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff against the University of New England Nor'easters.
