Beacons Take #11 Salve Regina to Extra Innings in Home Effort

BOSTON, MA (May 1, 2025) – UMass Boston Baseball (24-12, 12-4 Little East Conference) went toe-to-toe with the NCAA's 11th-ranked Division III team, the Salve Regina Seahawks (27-7), through nine innings before falling in extras. Despite the result, the Beacons delivered one of the most exciting matchups of the season at Monan Park in their regular-season home finale.

UMass Boston utilized six pitchers in the effort, starting with first-year Jonny Pagano (Attleboro, Mass.), who tossed four innings. Keenan Metrick (Malvern, Penn.), Ethan Nowak (Hampton, N.H.), Dowd Ritter (Birmingham, Ala.), and Ross Dexter (Milton, Mass.) followed in relief, with Dexter recording three of the Beacons' five strikeouts across two strong innings. Thomas Kierce (Cohasset, Mass.) closed out the staff, pitching the tenth inning.

How It Happened:

  • The Seahawks struck first with an RBI groundout and a single to right field to take a 2-0 lead. UMass Boston responded in the second when Reed Burkett-Schneider (Austin, Tex.) scored on a wild pitch.

  • The Beacons tied the game in the third as Burkett-Schneider grounded out to first, allowing Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) to score from third.

  • Jacob Levine (Easton, Mass.) delivered an RBI single in the fourth to briefly give the Beacons a 3-2 lead. Salve Regina evened it again with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

  • From the fifth through ninth innings, the teams combined for just two hits, as the pitchers dominated backed by stellar defense.

  • In the tenth, the Seahawks loaded the bases and scored twice on a deep drive to center to take the lead for good.

By the Numbers:

  • Mike Meagher (Marston's Mills, Mass.) led the Beacons with two hits in four at-bats. Miles and Richard Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) each added one hit.

  • Miles also led the team with two stolen bases.

What's Next:
The Beacons will close the regular season on the road this Sunday (May 4) in Beverly, MA, against NCAA third-seeded Endicott College at 1:00 p.m., a final tune-up before the LEC Postseason Tournament.
