Ithaca, N.Y. (May 17, 2025) — UMass Boston softball capped off an outstanding 2025 campaign with a hard-fought split on day two of the NCAA Regional Tournament, defeating Springfield College 4-2 before falling to nationally ranked Ithaca College. The Beacons finish the season with an impressive 33-13-1 record.
Game 1: UMass Boston 4, Springfield 2
The Beacons came out strong in their elimination game against Springfield, setting the tone early and never trailing. After a quiet first inning, Lauren Miner (Millbury, Mass.) sparked the offense in the second with a one-out hit, later scoring on a clutch two-out triple by Mary Matthews (Wilsonville, Ore.).
In the fourth, UMass Boston added insurance runs. Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) singled to start the inning, followed by a bunt single from Lauren Miner (Millbury, Mass.). Amauri English (North Providence, R.I.) then reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a throwing error, moving Miner to third. With runners on second and third, Mary Matthews once again delivered, driving a two-run single into the outfield to extend the lead to 3-0.
Springfield rallied for two runs in the sixth, but the Beacons responded. Matthews, who had a perfect game at the plate, scored on an Izzy Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) RBI single in the seventh to give UMass Boston 4. Bri Melchionda (Marshfield, Mass.) sealed the win in the bottom of the inning with her fourth strikeout of the game.

Game 2: Ithaca 11, UMass Boston 0
The Beacons faced a tough opponent in host and No. 21-ranked Ithaca College in the second game of the day. After holding the Bombers scoreless through two innings, Ithaca's power at the plate proved decisive, as they pulled away with a series of timely hits, including three home runs.
