Jimenez Tallies 100th Career Hit in Home Effort vs W.I.T

BOSTON, Mass. (April 30, 2025) – UMass Boston baseball (24-13, 12-4 Little East Conference) dropped a midweek non-conference contest to the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards (15-20, 5-9 Commonwealth Coast Conference) on Wednesday afternoon at Monan Park, 4-1. The Beacons managed one run on six hits and now look ahead to their final regular-season home game on Thursday (May 1) against Salve Regina.

The Beacons utilized seven pitchers in a staff day, beginning with Hunter Ward (Nashua, N.H.), who worked the first five innings. He was followed by a group that included Jake Silveria (Norfolk, Mass.), Josh Garner (Arlington, Mass.), and Robert Hjort (Plainville, Mass.). Ward and Hjort led the staff with two strikeouts each, as the group combined for five punchouts against 35 batters.

How It Happened:

  • After four scoreless innings, Wentworth broke through in the fifth with a run on two singles.

  • The Leopards added two more in the seventh, scoring on an RBI single and a double play that brought in a run from third.

  • UMass Boston got on the board in the eighth when Reed Burkett-Schneider (Austin, Tex.) delivered an RBI double to score Mike Meagher (Marston's Mills, Mass.) down the left field line.

  • Wentworth added an insurance run in the ninth to seal the win, handing UMass Boston just its fourth home loss of the season (15-4 at Monan Park).

By the Numbers:

  • The Beacons totaled six hits in 31 at-bats, led by Mariano Jimenez (Waltham, Mass.), who went 3-for-4 with his ninth double of the year. The same swing marked a major career milestone as he recorded his 100th career hit, joining an elite class of UMass Boston hitters to reach the century mark.

  • Aditionally, Jacob Levine (Easton, Mass.), Burkett-Schneider, and Justin Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.) each added one hit.

What's Next: UMass Boston remains at Monan Park on Thursday, May 1, for their regular-season home finale against the Salve Regina Seahawks. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. as the Beacons host their annual Military Appreciation Game.
