BOSTON, MA (April 29, 2025) – UMass Boston Softball (27-8-1, 8-5-1 Little East Conference) closed out its home regular season schedule with a Senior Day doubleheader split against the University of Southern Maine (19-16, 8-4 LEC), taking game one 6-3 before falling 4-2 in extra innings in game two.

Game One: UMB 6 – 3 USM
Bri Melchionda (Marshfield, Mass.) threw a complete game to open the day, striking out nine across seven innings while allowing just three runs on five hits.
How it Happened:

UMass Boston scored solo runs in the first and fourth innings, then erupted for four in the sixth to take control.

Sofie Richland (South Burlington, Vt.) scored the game's first run on a fielding error.

In the fourth, Mary Matthews (Wilsonville, Ore.) crossed the plate on an RBI groundout from Amauri English to break a 1-1 tie.

The Beacons' big inning came in the sixth: Izzy Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) drove in Lauren Miner (Millbury, Mass.) with an RBI single; Haley Tilberry (Moosic, Penn.) followed with a two-RBI single scoring Levasseur and Cosette Zito (Woodbridge, Conn.); and Melchionda capped the rally with an RBI single to bring in Richland.

The Huskies managed one run in the seventh, but Melchionda shut the door to earn her seventh win of the season.

The Beacons hit .296 as a team (8-for-27), with extra-base hits from Miner (double), Tilberry (triple), and Matthews (triple).

Tilberry led the offense with two hits and a team-best three RBIs.

Game Two: USM 4 – 2 UMB (F/8)
Alexis Fleischer (San Diego, Calif.) pitched the first three innings, allowing just one hit to 12 batters on 40 pitches. Jacqueline Cherry (Franklin, Mass.) took over for the final five frames, striking out five across 5.0 innings in relief.

Both teams scored in the third inning, with Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) driving in Melchionda on an RBI single to tie the game. at 1-1

Southern Maine broke through in the eighth with a two-run homer and an RBI single to go up 4-1.

The Beacons scratched across one run on a sacrifice fly from English in the bottom half, but the rally came up short.

Melchionda led the offense again, going 3-for-4 with a double—her 12th of the year.

English also added a double, her eighth of the season.

Tilberry and Gracie Granger (Paxton, Mass.) each stole a base, pushing their season totals to 15 and 5, respectively.
