Rich Shines in Historic Senior Day Win

Newton, Mass. (April 26, 2025) — On a memorable Senior Day, Hannah Rich (Rockland, Mass.) delivered a record-setting performance with seven goals, leading UMass Boston to its first-ever Little East Conference victory in program history. The Beacons defeated Rhode Island College 21-15 in a thrilling offensive battle.

How It Happened

The Beacons opened the game with early momentum, scoring the first two goals courtesy of Rae Alexander (Georgia, VT) and Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.), assisted by Jamie McAleavey (Quincy, Mass.). However, the Anchorwomen responded with four unanswered goals to seemingly seize control.

Rich, the Beacons' lone senior, sparked a comeback with her first goal of the day, followed by a woman-up goal from Ava Duffy (Quincy, Mass.) to tie the game at 4-4 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw more back-and-forth action. After exchanging early goals with Rhode Island College's Maggie Schwab, the Anchorwomen pulled ahead 7-5. Rich and Duffy responded again, cutting the deficit, but RIC pushed their lead to 11-8 at halftime despite Rich completing her first-half hat trick.

UMass Boston came out strong in the third, with McAleavey and Sheedy scoring early. After Rhode Island extended their lead to 12-10, Alexander and Rich answered to tie the game. With just over three minutes left in the third, Sheedy completed her hat trick to give the Beacons a 14-13 lead—their first since the opening minutes.

Rich took over from there, scoring twice in under a minute to extend the lead. UMass Boston dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Anchorwomen 7-2 to secure the historic win.

Rich added her seventh goal, while Kaitlyn Ondrick (Westfield, Mass.) and Alexander contributed one each. Sheedy closed out the scoring with back-to-back goals, helping the Beacons set a new program record with 21 goals in a single game.
