Beacons Take Down Owls, Clinch Second in LEC

Keene, N.H. (Apr. 25, 2025) – The UMass Boston Beacons closed out the regular season with a 10-8 win over Keene State on the Owls' Senior Day, securing second place in the Little East Conference standings.

How It Happened

The game was a back-and-forth battle until the fourth quarter, when the Beacons pulled away with a decisive run.

Seth Libby (Pomfret, Conn.) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game off an assist from Caesar Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.). After Keene State responded with two goals to take a brief lead, Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) quickly tied the game with his 44th goal of the season. Timothy Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) added an unassisted goal late in the first quarter. The Owls scored once more before the end of the quarter and added another to start the second, but Jack Schartner (25th goal of the season) tied it 4-4 just before halftime.

Shane McGonagle (Haverhill, Mass.) kicked off the second half with a goal just 20 seconds into the third quarter. Hutchings scored again before Keene State's Jake Dubiel narrowed the gap. On the ensuing faceoff, Hendricks connected with Hutchings to complete his hat trick and give the Beacons a one-goal lead entering the fourth.

UMass Boston then went on a three-goal run, starting with Jack Schartner, followed by Hutchings' fourth goal of the day and Nick Gualtieri's (Billerica, Mass.) fourth goal of the season to make it 10-6. The Owls added two late goals, but the Beacons held on for the 10-8 win.
