Beacons Split Saturday Doubleheader at Plymouth State

Plymouth, NH (Apr. 19, 2025) – The UMass Boston softball team split their Saturday doubleheader with Plymouth State University in Little East Conference (LEC) action. With the split, the Beacons move to second place in the conference standings, trailing only Southern Maine and sitting just ahead of third-place Plymouth State.

Game 1: Plymouth State 4, UMass Boston 3

UMass Boston jumped out to an early lead, but a late surge by the Panthers in the sixth inning handed the Beacons their third LEC loss of the season.

  • In the top of the first, Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) opened the scoring with an RBI single to left, bringing home Sofie Richland (South Burlington, Vt.).

  • The Panthers answered in the bottom half to tie things up.

  • Mary Matthews (Wilsonville, Oreg.) reclaimed the lead for the Beacons in the third, scoring on a wild pitch.

  • Amauri English (North Providence, R.I.) and Ella Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.) pushed the score to 3-1 after English crossed home on Delisle's groundout.

  • Plymouth State mounted their comeback in the sixth: Kenzie Bessette drove in Jade Guertin with a single and later scored herself off an Avery Couch RBI single, giving the Panthers the go-ahead run and the game one win.

Game 2: UMass Boston 5, Plymouth State 1

The Beacons bounced back in game two with a dominant fifth inning to secure the win.

  • Plymouth State struck first with a run in the third off a Bessette sacrifice fly.

  • In the fifth, the Beacons exploded for four runs:

    • Avery Weinstein (Winnetka, IL.) walked to lead off, followed by a Sofie Richland single.
    • Haley Tilberry (Moosic, Pa.) brought in Weinstein with a single up the middle.

    • Mary Matthews followed with a single to load the bases.
    • Down to their final out of the inning, Hayley Krockta delivered the big hit, a bases-clearing double to center, giving the Beacons a 4-1 lead.

  • In the sixth, Izzy Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) scored on a Tilberry sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-1.

  • Alexis Fleischer (San Diego, CA.) earned the win in the circle, improving to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
