BOSTON, MA (April 15, 2025) – The UMass Boston softball team (22-3-1, 5-2-1 Little East Conference) split a conference doubleheader with Vermont State University Castleton (15-9, 4-4 LEC) at UMB Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon. Despite outhitting the Spartans in game one, the Beacons fell 4-2 before bouncing back with a dominant 10-2 run-rule victory in game two.

The Beacons opened the scoring with RBI singles from Haley Tilberry (Moosic, Pa.) and Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. However, a costly error in the sixth allowed Castleton to tie the game, scoring two unearned runs. The Spartans added two more in the seventh to complete the comeback and take the opener.

Game Two: UMass Boston 10 – VTSU Castleton 2 (5 Innings)
Jacqueline Cherry (Franklin, Mass.) took the circle in game two and improved to 10-0 on the year, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out three in the complete-game effort.
Castleton opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning—one on a bases-loaded walk and another on a groundout. From there, it was all Beacons, as they responded with 10 unanswered runs across the next four innings to close the game via the mercy rule.
A four-run second inning ignited the offense, highlighted by an RBI triple from Matthews and an aggressive double steal that allowed Ella Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.) to swipe home. Delisle would go on to score again in the fourth on a grounder to the pitcher, while Amaya Rodrigues (Indio, Calif.) crossed on a wild pitch later in the same inning.
The Beacons tacked on three more runs in the fifth, including a bunt RBI single from Delisle to seal the five-inning win.
