Both pitchers tallied three strikeouts apiece. Angelo Centrone (Bethel, Conn.) retired the side in the eighth to close out the Beacons' day on the mound.
The Owls opened the game with nine unanswered runs through the first seven innings. UMass Boston responded late, staging a five-run comeback attempt across the eighth and ninth.
Bostyn Burris (Highland Village, Texas) sparked the rally by scoring on a groundout from Paden Larkins (Shelton, Conn.). Connor Seeley (Malden, Mass.) followed with an RBI single to left, plating Derek Hawley (Cortland Manor, N.Y.).
In the ninth, Burris drove in Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.) with a single to short, making it 3–9. Reed Burkett-Schneider (Austin, Texas) and Hawley added back-to-back RBI singles, scoring Nicolas Piscioniere (Shelton, Conn.) and Burris to close the gap to four runs.
