Boston, MA (March 8, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons defeated the University of New England Nor'easters 11-6 in a windy matchup at James Cotter Field on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

The Beacons took control early, as Jack Schartner (Bolton, Mass.) opened the scoring with his first of four goals on the day, sparking a five-goal run for UMass Boston. Caesar Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.) followed with his fifth goal of the season just under a minute later, and Seth Libby (Pomfret, CT.) scored his first of three goals, giving the Beacons a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter began in similar fashion, with Schartner netting his second goal of the day, assisted by Duncan Youngclaus (Middleboro, Mass.), who earned his first assist of the season. Schartner completed his hat trick at 7:41, with Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) making the assist - his first of the season. The Nor'easters responded, with Finn McCoy getting UNE on the board before Timothy Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) answered with his first goal of the game. Nate Hunt added a goal for UNE just before halftime, cutting the Beacons' lead to 6-2.

Schartner stopped the Nor'easters' momentum by scoring his fourth goal of the game at 9:53 in the third quarter, bringing his season total to seven. Libby followed with back-to-back goals, completing his own hat trick. Meczywor then added his first goal of the season to extend the Beacons' lead 10-4.

Sullivan provided the only fourth-quarter goal, scoring while UMass Boston was a man up, securing the 11-6 victory for the Beacons.
