The Beacons Score 16 in Their Fourth Consecutive Victory to Begin 2025 Season

BOSTON, MA (March 4, 2025) – The Beacons' baseball team (4-0) strung together 16 runs against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers (0-2) in a total team effort, with 20 total Beacons seeing time on the field, including a debut from Ethan Nowak (Hampton, N.H.) and first career win on the mound for first-year Connor Curtis (Mansfield, Mass.).
On the Mound
Five Beacons shared duties on the mound in the win.
  •  The Little East Conference's Pitcher of the Week, Ross Dexter (Milton, Mass.), started in his second game of the season and struck out six batters in four innings of action.
  • Curtis followed Dexter for two innings and held the Engineers to just two hits with two punchouts to earn his first career W.
  • Robert Hjort (Plainville, Mass.), Nowak, and Angelo Centrone (Bethel, Conn.) each came in for an inning to close out the final three.
  • Of the final three closers, they combined for two hits and four strikeouts against 14 batters in a lockdown performance to close the door.
How it Happened:
  • The Engineers opened with three runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the first.
  • Mike Meagher (Marston's Mills, Mass.) scored first for UMass Boston with a two-run RBI triple in his first at-bat of the game. Meagher scored Jacob Levine (Easton, Mass.) and Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.), who each singled to begin the Beacons' frame.
  • Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.) singled to begin the home-half of the third and later advanced to score on a passed ball to tie the game at three runs apiece.
  • UMass Boston wasn't finished in the third, as Meagher notched his second extra-base hit of the game with a two-run RBI double to take a 5-3 advantage.
  • The Beacons showed no mercy, scoring 11 unanswered runs to close out the following four innings.
  • In the fourth, Justin Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.) moved into scoring position with a one-out double and was brought home by Gaer on the next at-bat with another RBI double.
  • They scored five runs in the fifth inning on four hits. Nick Farnacci (Farmingdale, N.Y.) opened with a single, followed by Meagher's third extra-base hit of the game with a double, moving Farnacci and himself into scoring position. Breon Parker (Springfield, Mass.) loaded the bases by taking one for the team on a pitch that ran too far inside. Mariano Jimenez (Waltham, Mass.) followed suit with another HBP, scoring Farnacci from third. Gouveia and Gaer each added two more with two-run RBI singles, making it an 11-3 lead for the Beacs.
  •  Farnacci's sixth-inning single allowed him to steal both second and third base, later scoring off Meagher's fifth RBI of the game.
  • The Engineers struggled to find the zone in the bottom of the seventh. Three consecutive walks set up Bostyn Burris (Highland Village, Tex.) to score on a wild pitch. Two more walks to Miles and Farnacci scored Gaer for his second run of the game. An RBI fielder's choice by Richard Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) scored Jayden LaFleur (Dighton, Mass.) for the Beacons' final run of the game.
At the Plate:
  • Meagher set a new career-high for doubles and RBIs in a game. He was 3-4 at the dish with two doubles and a triple (second of his career) while coming across to score one run.
  • Farnacci was 2-2 with three runs scored, two walks, an RBI, with a new career-high three steals.
  • Gaer was 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Gouveia was 2-4 with two runs, two RBIs, and a stolen base.
The Beacons look to continue to stay hot on Wednesday (March 5) at 2:00 p.m. against the Lasers of Lasell University from Monan Park.
