Baseball Falls to Tufts in Tightly Contested Road Game

MEDFORD, MA (March 25, 2025) – The UMass Boston baseball team (10-5) scored four runs on seven hits against the Tufts University Jumbos (6-9) but ultimately fell short by one run in a nine-inning, hard-fought contest.

UMass Boston used four pitchers in the effort, with first-year Connor Curtis (Mansfield, Mass.) starting for the first four innings. He was followed by Angelo Centrone (Bethel, Conn.), Logan Lawrence (Taunton, Mass.), and Ethan Nowak (Hampton, N.H.).

How it Happened:

  • UMass Boston struck first in the opening frame, with Richard Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) scoring on a passed ball at the plate to give the Beacons a 1-0 lead.

  • The Jumbos scored three runs on as many hits in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead by two runs heading into the final four frames.

  • The Beacons responded with two runs in the top of the sixth to retake a one-run lead. Jacob Levine (Easton, Mass.) hit his third home run in four days, driving in two RBIs, including himself and Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.).

  • Bostyn Burris (Highland Village, Tex.) doubled to open the top of the seventh inning. Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) followed with a single to right field, driving in Burris for the final UMass Boston run of the day. However, the Jumbos outlasted the Beacons, 5-4.

By the Numbers:

  • Burris led five Beacons with three hits in five at-bats, including a double and one run scored.

  • Levine secured a team-high two RBIs with his third home run in two consecutive games.

  • Williams led the Beacons in stolen bases with three, followed by Burris with two, and Mike Meagher (Marston's Mills, Mass.) with one. Burris is third on the team with a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases-attempts, ranking third in the Little East Conference for total stolen bases.

UMass Boston looks to bounce back when they return to play tomorrow, March 26, against Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., at 3:00 p.m. Stay tuned for live coverage.
