Gorham, Maine (Feb. 9, 2025) --- With under five minutes remaining in regulation, Katie Wilbert beat Haley McKim to the post, scoring the Beacons game-winning goal in their 3-2 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Beacons once again dominated play early, outshooting the Huskies 24-11 (13-5 on net) in the first period, but went into the first intermission deadlocked at zero. Ally Stymiest of Southern Maine was the first to score just over a minute into the second frame, but a goal by Gianna Skrelja – her fourth of the season - leveled the game once again before the teams headed into the second intermission. Liz Kramp started the third period netting her third goal of the season to pull the Beacons ahead by one. Oliva Stewart once again brought the Huskies even, but a great effort by Katie Wilbert soon after brought the Beacons back in front, securing the 3-2 win.
