Bosch Preserves Shutout in Beacons win over Herons

Boston, MA (Feb. 14, 2025) --- The UMass Boston Beacons, behind a 32 save performance by Leah Bosch, defeated the Herons of William Smith by a score of 2-1 Friday night. 


How it Happened 

Emily Hansen and Gianna Skrelja each scored their fifth goal of the season on the powerplay to help give the Beacons the 2-0 win. Hansen would get the first of the game just under nine minutes into the match when she directed a shot by Cassidy Morrison behind the Herons' netminder, Erin Murray. Skrelja converted early in the second period to double the lead, rocketing home a shot after a pass by Mia Boyd. The Herons would get their best chances in the third frame, drawing four of their five penalties in the third, but the Beacons defense, backed by Leah Bosch in net, held strong to keep the Herons off the board preserving the victory. 


Inside the Box Score 

  • The Beacons found success on the power play going 2/4, scoring both of their goals while a woman up. 

  • Leah Bosch finished the night with 32 saves, 16 of which came in the final frame. 

  • The Beacons were a perfect 0/5 on the penalty kill. 

  • The Herons won the faceoff battle 29-13. Hansen had the most success for the Beacons winning 7. 

  • Skrelja added a goal and an assist to her stats bringing her to 11 points on the season to lead the team. Skrelja also leads the team in assists with 6.

The Beacons and Herons will meet again tomorrow at 3pm to decide final seedings for the NEHC tournament. Before the matchup, the Beacons will be celebrating Senior Day.
