Beacons Fall in OT

Gorham, ME (Feb. 7, 2025) --- Cassidy Morrison scored her team leading sixth goal of the season in the third period to level the score, but the University of Southern Maine Huskies were the first to find the back of the net in overtime, taking the 2-1 win.

How it Happened

The Beacons held the advantage in nearly every category, outshooting the Huskies 20-12 through two periods, but weren't able to convert until 4:39 into the third period when Cassidy Morrison, assisted by Gianna Skrelja, leveled the score on the power play. The assist ties Skrelja with Margeaux Butters for team lead in assists with five on the season and elevates the sophomore defender to 8 points on the season, also good for first on the team. The Beacons found themselves on the penalty kill three times holding the Huskies to 0/3. The Beacons also held the advantage in the faceoff circle going 36-16 as a team. Emily Hansen led the way, going 17-6 followed closely by Katie Wilbert who registered 12 wins, 6 losses. Junior Kristen Briggs also found success losing just one faceoff in her six attempts.

Up Next

The Beacons have a short turnaround and will look to bounce back when they take on the Huskies tomorrow at 3pm in Gorham, Maine.
