BOSTON, Mass. (Dec. 31, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons women's basketball team (6-4, 0-2 LEC) closed 2025 in style, cruising past Fitchburg State (2-8) 93–34 on Wednesday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center. Four Beacons finished in double figures, led by a career-high 25 points from first-year forward Kaydie Sturm.
A fast start from the duo of Jordis Tautalatasi (Springfield, Mass.) and Ashleigh Lagor (Millbury, Mass.) put the Beacons ahead 5–0 early in the first quarter. The Falcons fought back late to cut the deficit to 14–8 at the end of the first quarter, but the Beacons gained momentum in the second quarter, going on a 14–0 scoring run to pull ahead with a 28–8 lead. Fitchburg State tried to keep pace, but the Beacons pulled ahead to carry a 41–13 lead entering the break, holding the Falcons to just five second-quarter points. Sturm anchored the Beacons with a team-leading nine points off 3-of-7 shooting from the field, and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in the first half. Meanwhile, Lagor led both teams in scoring, with 12 first-half points. UMass Boston held the edge in field goal percentage, 42.9 to 16.7 and in three-point percentage, 37.5 to 7.1.
Fitchburg State got the first bucket of the third quarter, but UMass Boston continued to carry the momentum, as they increased the lead to 58–15 on a 13–0 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Sturm. The Falcons countered with a quick layup, which cut the lead to 58–17. Hialeah Turner-Foster (Mashpee, Mass.) answered back by converting a missed three-pointer into second-chance points to add on to the Beacons' advantage.
Fitchburg State could not rally back in the fourth quarter, as Skye DaCosta (Cambridge, Mass.), Tajeiha Madison (Brockton, Mass.), and Sturm scored 19 out of the Beacons' 27 fourth-quarter points to secure the victory.
Sturm finished the game with 25 points off 8-for-17 shooting, and 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. Tautalatasi contributed 16 points, Lagor chipped in with 14, and Turner-Foster rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11. The quartet accounted for 66 of the Beacons' 93 points. Madison was the backbone to the Beacons' offense, posting a season-high nine assists, while Kayla Jackson (Saugus, Mass.) secured 13 total rebounds.
