The Beacons traveled to Utica, New York last weekend to compete in the Delta by Marriott Utica Thanksgiving Showcase at the ADK Bank Center. The Utica University Pioneers hosted the Beacons, Hamilton College, and SUNY Morrisville for a thrilling weekend of hockey.
Game one was buoyed by a stellar two goal performance from Junior Captain
Jack Mortson and a pair of assists from Senior Forwards
Jazz Krivtsov &
Jude Kurtas. The Beacons took the #10 Utica Pioneers into overtime before falling 5-4 off a goal from Utica's Andrew Della Rovere. Senior Defender
Steven Spetz & Sophomore Left Wing
Jacob Roberson also added goals for the Beacons. Sophomore Goalie
Connor McDonough anchored the defense with an impressive 32 saves in the hard-fought contest.
The Beacons carried that momentum into game two the following night when they took down the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs 2-1 to claim 3
rd place in the tournament. From the opening faceoff, UMass Boston dictated the pace, capitalizing on their energy from game one and translating it into sustained offensive pressure and smart defensive play. Once again,
Jack Mortson netted the decisive second period goal that ultimately stood as the difference maker for the Beacons. Freshman Goalie
Alex Koenig added 25 solid saves to put the Mustangs to seal the win in regulation.
UMass Boston now turns its attention to hosting Roger Williams this Saturday as the Beacons look to close out the semester on a high note before the mid-season holiday break.
