BOSTON, MA (November 30, 2025) -- The UMass Boston women's hockey team (5-2-1, 3-2-0 LEC) delivered two hard fought performances as they split their weekend action at the 2025 Codfish Bowl, falling first to Manhattanville University (2-4-1) in a shootout that lasted more than seven rounds, and then defeating William Smith (5-3-0) in Sunday's Consolation Game to take third at this year's round robin.
Nov. 29 vs Manhattanville University: UMB 1 - 1 MAN (2-3 SO)
After the Valiants struck first in the opening period, the Beacons responded early in the second with a highlight-reel, power-play goal from junior forward Maggie Lynch (Quincy, Mass.). Sophomore Cassidy Morrison (Fairbanks, Alaska) and junior defenseman Jenna Fitzsimons (Ashland, Mass.) combined on a clean setup, allowing Lynch to bury the equalizer and swing the momentum back in UMass Boston's favor.
From there, the Beacons controlled much of the contest. UMass Boston outshot Manhattanville, 22–10, and dominated the faceoff circle with 25 wins, keeping possession tilted in its favor for large stretches of play. Defensively, the Beacons remained locked in, limiting quality chances and stifling every Valiant push as the game progressed.
Despite their control of the pace and sustained pressure, the go-ahead goal never came. The game remained deadlocked through the third period and overtime before Manhattanville claimed the shootout to secure the final outcome.
Even with the shootout loss, the performance showcased the Beacons' poise, discipline, and growing confidence as they continue to build momentum heading into their next matchup.
Nov. 30 vs William Smith: UMB 2 - 0 W.S
After a scoreless opening period, the Beacons broke through in the second when junior forward Maggie Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) finished a setup from sophomore Cassidy Morrison (Fairbanks, AK) to open the scoring. Just minutes later, freshman Shayna Chin (Brookline, Mass.) extended the lead to 2–0, giving UMass Boston a cushion it would not relinquish.
From there, the Beacons controlled the tempo, applying steady pressure on the forecheck and limiting William Smith's time in the offensive zone.
In net, senior Leah Bosch (Minnetonka, Minn.) was outstanding, stopping all 23 shots she faced to secure the shutout and anchor a poised defensive effort from start to finish.
The win showcased the Beacons' depth, discipline, and structure as they continue to build momentum heading into their next matchup.
The Beacons look ahead to next Friday, December 5, when they host the New England College Pilgrims on their home ice at 6:00 p.m.
