BOSTON, MA (November 23, 2025) — UMass Boston men's ice hockey (3-3, 2-2 LEC) split a weekend filled with overtime drama, dropping a Friday matchup to VTSU Castleton (2-4-1, 2-3 LEC) before bouncing back with a thrilling overtime victory over No. 15 Norwich University (4-3-0, 3-2-0 LEC) on Saturday at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.
Friday vs. VTSU Castleton: UMB 3 – VTSU 4 (OT)
Castleton opened the scoring late in the first period and doubled its lead early in the second. Senior forward Jude Kurtas (Hillsborough, N.J.) got UMass Boston on the board with the team's second power-play goal of the season, with assists from Jacob Roberson (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Rhett Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.).
The Spartans answered to restore their two-goal cushion before Roberson broke through again early in the third to pull the Beacons within one. With under two minutes remaining, senior captain Jazz Krivtsov (Santa Clarita, Calif.) buried the equalizer, igniting the home crowd.
Neither team could find the net late, sending the game into overtime, where Castleton netted the game-winner to secure the road victory.
Saturday vs. No. 15 Norwich: UMB 3 – Norwich 2 (OT)
UMass Boston came out aggressive against the nationally ranked Cadets and opened the scoring late in the first period when sophomore Alex Keller (Bridgeville, Pa.) registered his first goal of the season.
Krivtsov extended the lead early in the second period, marking his second goal of the weekend and sending the Barry into a frenzy once again.
Norwich responded with a power-play goal midway through the third before tying the game with just over two minutes remaining, forcing the contest into overtime.
The trio of Steven Spetz (Oak Ridge, N.J.), Chris Repmann (Middletown, N.J.), and Kurtas sealed the victory in OT, as Spetz found Repmann, who fired a shot on net, setting up Kurtas for the rebound and game-winning goal.
Kurtas finished the weekend with two goals, including the overtime winner, and one assist. Krivtsov tallied goals in both contests as the Beacons' captains continued to set the tone on the ice. First-year goalie Alex Koenig (Manhattan, Calif.) submits his bid for LEC Rookie of the Week for stopping a career-high 32 shots against the nationally-ranked Cadets and allowing just two goals.
UMass Boston heads to Utica next weekend for the Thanksgiving Showcase hosted by Utica University, opening against the hosts on Friday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m.
