Roger That. Beacons On to Second Round of NCAA Regionals Following 4–1 Win

BOWDOIN, ME (November 15, 2025) – Powered by a four-goal offensive showcase, the UMass Boston men's soccer team (13-3-4, 5-1-2 LEC) advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Regional Championship on Saturday afternoon with a commanding 4–1 victory over Roger Williams University (13-2-6) at Bowdoin College.

The Beacons opened the scoring in the 17th minute when sophomore forward Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil) drew a penalty after applying heavy pressure in the box. He stepped up and buried the chance to give UMass Boston an early 1–0 lead.

That margin doubled shortly after in the 23rd minute as junior Ryan Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) headed home a perfectly served ball from junior forward John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil), giving the Beacons firm control as the first half unfolded.

Roger Williams pulled one back in the 38th minute to cut the deficit to 2–1, but UMass Boston carried the one-goal advantage into the halftime break.

The Beacons wasted no time reasserting control in the second half, pushing the lead to 3–1 in the 54th minute off a strike from Felipe De Andrade (Westborough, Mass.), assisted by Doherty from just outside the 18-yard box.

Arruda added insurance in the 81st minute, calmly finishing a breakaway for his team-leading 11th goal of the season, sealing the 4–1 victory.

First-year goalkeeper Nolan McKenna (Norwell, Mass.) anchored the Beacons defensively, finishing with nine saves—including a critical 42nd-minute stop on Ollie Hamilton that preserved the lead. The back line of Ian Visnick (Beverly, Mass.), Jair Whyte (St. Johns, Antigua and Barbuda), and Parker Hamilton (Lexington, Mass.) held the Hawks to 17 shots (10 on goal) throughout the match.
