Beacons Battle to Final Whistle of NCAA Tournament Against Bowdoin College

BRUNSWICK, ME (November 16, 2025) – Capping off a memorable postseason run, the UMass Boston men's soccer team (13-4-4) concluded its 2025 campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 loss to host Bowdoin College (12-3-3) in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

UMass Boston struck first in the 16th minute, when a service from Felipe De Andrade (Westborough, Mass.) on the right wing created pressure inside the box that forced a Bowdoin own goal, giving the Beacons early momentum.

Bowdoin responded with two goals before halftime, equalizing on a 17th-minute penalty kick before converting a back-post header off a well-placed cross to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The Polar Bears extended their lead in the 54th minute, but the Beacons continued to battle. Ryan Lima (Minas Gerais, Brazil) pulled one back in the 85th minute with his fourth goal of the season, sparking a late push that nearly leveled the match. Despite the final surge, UMass Boston's comeback effort fell just short as the whistle signaled the end of an outstanding 2025 season.

The Beacons close the season with six players reaching double-digit points. Junior forward John Arruda led the attack with 26 points on 11 goals and four assists, followed by junior Ryan Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) with 23 points on eight goals and seven assists—18 of which came in the final eight of his last nine games. Sophomore standout Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and junior Rafael Gross (Minas Gerais, Brazil) each finished with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Felipe De Andrade added six goals and two assists, while Ryan Lima ended the year as the team's top playmaker with four goals and five assists.
