Cofield Achieves Career Milestone in Win Over Warriors

Windham, Conn. (Nov. 1, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons earned a pivotal Little East Conference (LEC) victory over the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors on Saturday night, winning 3–2. Setter Audrey Cofield reached a major career milestone in the match, surpassing 1,000 career assists in less than two full seasons with the Beacons. Needing only 10 assists entering the night, Cofield tallied an impressive 40 assists across five sets.

The opening set was a thriller, requiring extra points to determine the winner, with UMass Boston ultimately prevailing 26–24. The tightly contested set featured seven ties and two lead changes, though the Beacons held the advantage for much of the frame. Eastern Connecticut surged late with a three-point run to go up 24–22, but UMass Boston answered with a Paige Coulson kill, a Warrior attack error, and a Cofield service ace—one of three on the night—to take a 25–24 lead. Cofield then sealed the set with another point from the service line to give the Beacons the first set.

Eastern Connecticut responded by taking the next two sets, 25–19 and 25–13, swinging momentum in their favor. The Beacons bounced back in commanding fashion in the fourth set, opening with a five-point run and cruising to a 25–13 victory—their largest margin of the match.

In the decisive fifth set, Mya Perron sparked the offense with an early kill from a Cofield assist to put UMass Boston on the board. The Beacons maintained control from there, closing out the set 15–9 to take the match 3–2.

Perron led all players with 18 kills, including five in the final set, while Mary Denny added 14 kills. Addie Blomgren continued her dominance at the net, finishing with seven total blocks (four solo, three assists).

Defensively, Mary Matthews posted a match-high 23 digs, bringing her season total to 439 as she continues her pursuit of the 1,000 career digs milestone.
