Boston, Mass. (Nov. 1, 2025) — David Lun earned his first victory as head coach of the UMass Boston women's hockey program as the Beacons opened their 2025–26 season with a 2–1 win over the University of New England Nor'easters on Saturday night at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.
Cassidy Morrison powered the Beacons' offense, scoring both goals on the night. Morrison struck first in the opening period, lighting the lamp on UMass Boston's first power play of the season to give her team a 1–0 lead. The Beacons held that advantage through a scoreless second period until UNE's Keely Kasputis tied the game in the third. Morrison responded, netting the game-winner at 13:59 to seal Lun's first victory behind the bench.
Special teams played a key role, with both sides earning five power-play opportunities. The Beacons made the most of theirs, converting once and holding the Nor'easters scoreless on all five of their chances. Veronika Hadamovsky earned the win in net, turning aside 25 shots, including 13 saves in the middle frame to preserve the Beacons' lead.
At the faceoff dot, Emily Hansen was dominant, winning 13 of 14 draws, as UMass Boston finished 31–17 overall in faceoffs.
