GORHAM, Maine (October 22, 2025) – The UMass Boston men's soccer team (8-3-4, 3-1-2 LEC) battled back twice to earn a 2-2 draw against the University of Southern Maine Huskies (4-4-8, 2-1-3 LEC) in a Wednesday night Little East Conference matchup on the road.
The Huskies struck first in the 8th minute when Southern Maine's leading scorer, Exauce Lenge, buried his fifth goal of the season to put the hosts on top early. The Beacons responded in the 29th minute as junior forward John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) blasted home a solo screamer to level the match at 1-1.
Despite controlling much of the play and holding a 9-4 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes, UMass Boston trailed again before halftime. Southern Maine's Pashalis Pashalidis slipped one past the Beacon defense in the 41st minute to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead heading into the break. Both sides produced one corner opportunity and were whistled for six fouls apiece in the opening period.
The Beacons came out firing in the second half, recording 17 total shots—nine on target—while applying heavy pressure throughout. Their persistence finally paid off in the 88th minute, when Ryan Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) netted his second goal of the season to deliver the late equalizer and secure a point on the road.
Senior midfielder Ryan Lima (Minas Gerais, Brazil) led the Beacons with seven shots, including five on goal, while eight different players recorded offensive stats. First-year goalkeeper Mario Hajhdi (Illiopolis, Greece) went the distance, making three saves on five shots faced.
UMass Boston will close out the week on the road, traveling to Plymouth, N.H., to face the Plymouth State Panthers in a 1:00 p.m. LEC matchup—the penultimate game of the 2025-26 regular season.
