Boston, Mass. (Oct. 15, 2025) – The UMass Boston Beacons women's soccer team battled back from a halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Westfield State on Wednesday evening at James Cotter Field, thanks to a pair of goals from standout forward Sofia Schallmo.
Westfield State opened the scoring in the 28th minute, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Both teams tallied one save in the first half, while the Beacons weathered three Owl corner kicks.
UMass Boston responded after the break. In the 57th minute, Schallmo netted her seventh goal of the season, finishing off an individual effort to level the score at 1-1. The Owls quickly answered just five minutes later, briefly regaining the lead.
But the Beacons didn't relent. With increased pressure in the final third, they found the equalizer in the 81st minute when Andrea Rivera set up Schallmo for her second goal of the night, securing the tie.
UMass Boston outshot Westfield State 9-8 in the second half and earned four corner kicks. Goalkeeper Avery Weinstein finished with three saves, helping preserve the draw. Offensively, the Beacons recorded five shots on target—four from Schallmo and one from Rivera.
