Dudley, Mass. (Oct. 15, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons swept the Nichols College Bison in straight sets on Wednesday night, earning their fifth consecutive victory and 11th win of the season.
The Beacons opened the first set with a 3-point run sparked by a kill from Lauren Westlund and never looked back, cruising to a 25-19 win.
Nichols struck first in the second set, but UMass Boston responded with 10 unanswered points, including three service aces from Westlund, to take a commanding 10-1 lead. The Beacons limited the Bison to just 17 points in the set—only four of which came from kills.
The third set proved to be the most competitive, featuring seven ties and three lead changes. However, UMass Boston prevailed again, closing out the match with a 25-20 victory.
Nichols struggled offensively, finishing with a negative hitting percentage in all three sets. Both teams recorded 23 total errors, but the Beacons dominated at the net and the service line. UMass Boston tallied 31 kills to Nichols' 15 and outpaced them in aces, 10 to 3.
Lauren Westlund led all players with 8 kills and 4 service aces. Mary Denny was a force at the net with 4 blocks and added 7 kills of her own. Audrey Cofield continued her stellar season with 18 assists—more than the entire Nichols squad combined.
