Boston, MA (Jan. 4, 2025) --- The UMass Boston Beacons' late push wasn't enough as they fell to the Yellowjackets of Wisconsin-Superior 5-2 in the Championship game of the 59th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament.
How it Happened
The Beacons dominated the offensive zone for the first 10 minutes of the game, and created a number of good scoring chances, but were unable to direct the puck into the back of the net. The momentum started to change in the Yellowjackets' favor after two icings and a big save by Tyler Bost off a turnover with just over five minutes remaining. Wisconsin-Superior barraged the net and scored the first goal of the game off the stick of Matt Francois, assisted by Ikki Kogawa at 17:11. The Yellowjackets would double their lead 40 seconds later thanks to an unassisted goal by Justin Dauphinais.
The second period would see a goaltending change with Connor Bradford making his debut in net in relief of Bost. Bradford would end up finishing the game with 18 saves in his first collegiate game played for the Beacons. Jude Kurtas found the back of the net in the second period and Michael Lynch tallied his second goal of the season in the third to end the game 5-2.
