Boston, MA (Jan. 24, 2025) --- The UMass Boston Beacons women's hockey team outplayed the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College, leading in nearly every category, but it took a shootout to finally lift the Beacons over the Falcons Friday night.
How it Happened
The Beacons started on the front foot and kept the pressure on the Falcons all game, outshooting Albertus Magnus 58-19. It was a physical game in NEHC action with nine penalties called and both teams' goals coming off of their respective power plays. The Beacons were first to strike after Adriana Crepaldi got a piece of Mia Boyd's shot, directing it into the back of the net in the second. The Beacons would continue to have the better chances but would head into the third up only by one. Molly Martin leveled the score at 10:51 in the third, ultimately propelling the game to overtime.
During the overtime period, both keepers were up to the task with Christmas Johnson from Albertus making nine saves and Veronika Hadamovsky registering four crucial saves to push the teams to the shootout.
In the shootout Margeaux Butters smoothly slid her shot passed Johnson to put the Beacons in front and Emily Hansen ended it in the third round getting the puck behind Johnson for the win.
