Boston, MA (Jan. 18, 2025) --- The UMass Boston Beacons weren't able to complete the weekend sweep of (RV) Elmira College, falling to the Golden Eagles by a score of 4-2 Saturday.
How it Happened
The Beacons controlled most of the play and outshot the Golden Eagles 16-11 in the first, but it was Elmira who got the scoring started thanks to goals by Nathan Young and later by Cole Tucker on the power play.
The Beacons came out with the same intensity in the second period and were able to cash in for their first goal of the game. Michael Lynch, assisted by Chris Repmann and Michael Krupinski, scored the first Beacons goal and his third of the season. Following the goal, it looked like the Beacons would find the equalizer, but Kyle Curtain made 17 saves to keep Elmira in front and in the closing seconds the momentum switched as Corbin Melie found the back of the net with less than six seconds remaining in the second.
The Beacons were undeterred and cut the lead back down to one when Ryan Leonard scored his second goal of the weekend and second of the season, but the clock wasn't in the Beacons' favor as they ran out of time, falling 4-2.
