Boston, MA (Jan. 17, 2025) --- Ryan Leonard scored his first goal of the season with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift the Beacons over the (RV) Elmira College Soaring Eagles by a score of 2-1 Friday night.
How it Happened
The Beacons came out firing out-skating Elmira to lose pucks and creating a flurry of chances early in the game as a result. A turnover on a line change nearly gave the Beacons the lead when Kolye Bankauskas took a shot that snuck under the netminder for Elmira but was ultimately able to be kept out with 13 seconds left in the first.
The Beacons would get their first power play opportunity after a cross checking call on Eric Bertelsen. In the final seconds of the power play the Beacons were able to convert thanks to a scorching shot by Jude Kurtas, assisted by Zander Lizotte and Tyler Drummond. Tyler Bost would make one of his 13 saves in the second when Elmira had a three on one opportunity that the senior shutdown, taking them into the 2nd intermission with the 1-0 lead.
The third period would see the Beacons start on the penalty kill, but Michael Krupinski got in front of the puck and blocked the Soaring Eagles best chance early in the frame. Elmira would level the score at 3:37 off the stick of Bailey Krawczyk, assisted by Seth Ferguson and Shane Haviland. Elmira tried to carry the momentum to a victory, but Bost made two crucial saves in the final two minutes of the game, allowing the Beacons the opportunity for a late push. With the seconds ticking down, Ryan Leonard sent the puck towards the net and watched as it ricocheted in for the Beacons win.
