Women’s Basketball Adds Another LEC Victory Against Panthers in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (January 16, 2025) – Sophomore forward Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 33 minutes to lead the way for the Beacons (6-10, 3-3 LEC) as they defeated Plymouth State 65-58.

First-year Ashleigh Lagor (Millbury, Mass.) and Junior Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.) also hit the double-digit mark in points, scoring 14 and 12 in the win for the Beacons.

How it Happened:
  • Berrios opened the scoring for UMass Boston, going coast-to-coast with a steal and score.
  • Fevry and Berrios combined for 10 of the Beacons' 12 points in the first quarter.

  • A balanced scoring attack saw seven different Beacons score in the second quarter, with sophomore Samora Merchant (Brookfield, Conn.), who led the way with four of the Beacons' 19 points in the quarter.
  • A strong second quarter, during which the Beacons outscored Plymouth State by five points, led to UMass Boston taking a 31-28 advantage into halftime.

  • At the start of the third quarter, the Beacons went on a 5-0 run over the opening 2:31 to push their lead to 8. The run was led by Berrios knocking down back-to-back jumpers.
  • Plymouth State answered back with a run of their own, reeling off 12 points in the final 2:53 of the quarter to knot the score at 47 going into the fourth.

  • Plymouth State opened the scoring in the fourth quarter by knocking down a deep-ranged jumper to put the Panthers up by three. The Beacons answered immediately, with Fevry and Lagor knocking down back-to-back jump shots to put UMass Boston up by one at the 8:49 mark.
  • The Panthers responded with Sophie George hitting a three of her own to push the Panthers' lead back to two.
  • The Beacons held the Panthers scoreless over the next 6:24 and responded with a 6-0 run of their own to extend their lead to four. The run was led by Berrios and Fevry, who scored four and two points, respectively.
  • The Beacons led 57-55 with 2:26 remaining before back-to-back layups by junior Sibayla Jensen (Potland, Ore.), and Lagor, who extended the lead to 61-55 with under a minute to go. Lagor and Jensen iced the game in the final minute, hitting two-of-two free-throws each to put the game out of reach and secure the 65-58 victory.
