Boston, MA (Jan. 11, 2025) --- The UMass Boston Beacons women's ice hockey team fought back from two goals down to tie it up and force overtime against the Seahawks of Salve Regina but ultimately fell 3-2 in NEHC action.
How it Happened
The Seahawks' Emily Wroblewski scored two unassisted goals, one early and one late in the first period, to give the away team the 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd frame. The second period was all Beacons starting with Emily Hansen scoring her own unassisted goal less than 30 seconds in. Cassidy Morrison, assisted by Margeaux Butters and Erin Duffy, would bring the game even at 2. The Beacons and Seahawks both had their chances in the 3rd, combining for 25 shots on net, but both keepers were up to the task forcing the game into five minutes of 3 on 3 hockey. Salve Regina were the first on the attack in the extra frame and made it count scoring on their third shot on net. Riley Esposito secured the game winner from Gina Richard for the 3-2 Salve Regina win in OT.
