Volleyball Splits Final Day of UMB Tournament

Boston, MA (Sep. 7, 2024) -- The UMass Boston volleyball team split the final day of the UMB Volleyball tournament, making their overall record on the still early season 4-3.

Game 1

The Beacons started the day off with a thrilling 5 set victory over Bridgewater State University. After Bridgewater State took the first set, UMass Boston took control of the second and third. The Bears bounced back in the fourth, but the Beacons were able to get the last word taking the fifth set 15-10.

Lauren Westlund was in the top of several statistical categories for the Beacons, leading the Beacons in kills (15), aces (5), and second on the team in digs with 13.

Game 2

The Beacons didn't see the same success when it came to results in game 2, but the Beacs pushed the Bantams of Trinity to the limit very nearly coming away with the win. The Beacons dropped the first set but rebounded in the next two sets pushing the final score of set 3 to 27. Set four went the Bantams way. Trinity took that momentum and started the fifth and final set 6-1. The Beacons clawed their way back getting to within two points but were not able to take the lead.

Addie Blomgren was one of many players with standout performances in game two. The first-year student from Riverside, Illinois had 6 blocks and 4 kills – both career and season highs.

Coaches Corner

"It was a wonderful weekend for our Beacon family. I want to thank our support staff for the tournament, the three teams that attended, and all our players who fought and gave everything they had. I am very proud of the team and grateful for the weekend." Stacy Cheney
