Offense Explodes for 8 Goals in LEC Win

Plymouth, NH (Sep. 21, 2024) --- The UMass Boston Beacons started Little East Conference play with a statement win over Plymouth State Saturday afternoon. 

The Basics 

UMass Boston 8 – 3 Plymouth State 

UMass Boston: 5-1-2; 1-0-0 (LEC) 

Plymouth State: 3-3-0; 0-1-0 (LEC) 

How it Happened 

  • Four different players scored for the Beacons in their 8-3 win with Andrea Rivera notching the game winner.  

  • Sofia Schallmo got the scoring started just over 3 minutes into the game thanks to an assist from Lucinda Cotter. After that initial goal, it was a flurry with six of the total eleven goals scored in the first frame. Daniella Celotto started the scoring in the second half getting her second goal in as many games. Devan Booth capped the scoring getting the 11th of the game and 8th for the Beacons with just over 10 minutes remaining in the contest.  

By the Numbers 

  • Andrea Rivera had the first hat-trick of her career with all of her on target shots finding the back of the net. In addition to her three goals, she also assisted on Kathryn Brown's goal. 

  • Sofia Schallmo was the first to find the back of the net and then added three helpers – all of them as assists on Rivera's three goals. 

  • Devan Booth got a brace, scoring the first goal of her career and then doubling it. 

  • Kathryn Brown added another goal to bring her total to four on the season.

Next Up 

The Beacons return home to James Cotter Field to take on non-conference opponent Worcester Polytechnic Institute Wednesday at 6pm.
