DARTMOUTH, MA ( September 21, 2024) – Members of the Beacons' men's and women's cross-country team were invited to compete at the 51
st annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, featuring teams all across New England at all NCAA division levels. Teams were tested against top-level talent in less-than-ideal conditions and continued to progress toward their season's end goals.
Men's Team:
- Junior Robert Cannon (Quincy, Mass.) led the way for the men's team, cruising through the eight-kilometer (4.97 miles) course in 28:40.67 seconds, a new season opener at this distance. Cannon finished in the top two-thirds out of 342 competitors.
- Cannon led the way for five other Beacons, with first-year Yariel Cordero Sanchez (Puerto Rico), junior Isaiah Stressman, and senior Sebastian Bien-Aime (Brockton, Mass.).
Women's Team
- The Beacons had five women lace up for the five-kilometer (3.11 miles) varsity races. Led by senior Grace Colon, who finished just above the middle of the pack with a 20:32.08 mark.
- Finishing just behind her was junior Shea Roche (Weymouth, Mass.) with a 20:45.70 finish. Junior Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.), senior Harleen Bassan (Arlington, Mass.), and senior Dorinda Okorji (Maynard, Mass.) each laced up for the women's races.
The Beacons continued to develop their grit and toughness on a difficult UMass Dartmouth race course through a cold and wet rainy day, setting themselves up for success at their next competition. The Beacons' cross-country team will travel to Hampshire College on Saturday, September 28
