BOSTON, MA (September 21, 2024) – The UMass Boston men's soccer team returned to their home turf of the Boston College High School Junior Varsity fields on Saturday and drew for a 0-0 stalemate against the Plymouth State Panthers in the 2024 Little East Conference season opener.
The Basics
UMass Boston 0 – 0 Plymouth State
UMass Boston: 2-1-4
Plymouth State: 3-3-1
How it Happened
- The Beacons and the Panthers were victims to the nasty Saturday weather, as both teams failed to finish one of several opportunities due to the wet conditions. One of the Beacons' best opportunities of the day came late in the second half from first-year forward Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil) as he sprang through the Panther's back line to poke a shot toward goal but was called back for offsides.
By the Numbers
- For the Beacons, graduate goalkeeper Andy Ramirez, and senior JJ Devine split the duties between the post, with Ramirez taking the first half, and Devine handling business in the second half. Both keepers registered a save in their minutes. As a unit, UMass Boston outshot Plymouth State 12-3, with the Beacons putting four shots on goal compared to the Panthers' two. The Beacons registered 10 opportunities from the corner flag compared to the Panthers' one. Four different Beacons registered two shots, with graduate midfielder Corey Finchum (Beaverdam, Virg.), senior defender Diego Gisholt (Tijuana, Mex.), and sophomore midfielder Patrick Garcia (Brookline, Mass.) each leading the offensive charge.
