Bridgewater, MA (Sep. 16, 2024) --- The UMass Boston men's soccer team scored first, but were unable to keep the Bears of Bridgewater State off the board in their 1-1tie Monday night.
How it Happened
The Beacons controlled most of the first half and were able to capitalize late thanks to a goal by Josh DeAlmeida. Jair Whyte collected the ball and dribbled past the 50 before passing to DeAlmeida who touched it off to Elijah Elliot. Elliot had his first ball deflected by the Bears defense, but the deflection came back to him as he played the second ball through to DeAlmeida who timed his run perfectly and one touched the ball past the goalkeeper.
With less than 5 minutes remaining in the game Justin Silva netted the equalizer. The goal came from a free kick about 25 yards out from goal, the ball was played out wide where it was then crossed to a waiting Silva who headed it in.
