Westfield, MA (Sep. 13, 2024) --- The UMass Boston Beacons defeated the Westfield State Owls for the first time in program history, 2-1 on Friday night.
How it Happened
The Beacons dominated much of the first half and put two goals on the board before the halftime whistle blew.
Junior Andrea Rivera capitalized on a bouncing ball in the box to put away the first goal of the game and her second of the season. With less than ten minutes remaining in the half, Kathryn Brown doubled the lead with the assist coming from fellow freshman, Lucinda Cotter. Kathryn Brown finished the game with six shots, five of them challenging the Owl keeper.
The Owls gained momentum in the second half, but Graduate defender for the Beacons, Caileigh Sullivan was a force in the back. The Owls managed to get one past the Beacs, but goalkeeper Julia Cote came up big making five saves in the game.
