Baseball’s Late Push Against Babson Falls Just Short

BABSON PARK, MA (April 24, 2024) – The Beacons baseball put together a late comeback attempt against the Beavers of Babson College, but fell just short following nine innings of non-conference baseball on Wednesday afternoon from Govoni Field.

The Beacons' bullpen sent out five total pitchers to see action against the Beavers, with senior Logan Lawrence kicking things off for the Beacs in the top of the first, and closing with senior Sam Gray. The Beacons' bullpen put together seven strikeouts, led by senior Thomas Kierce with four, walked five batters, and allowed nine total hits.

Senior Aidan Blake contributed two hits in four appearances at the dish. Blake recorded his third homerun in as many games in the effort against the Beavers. Junior Mike Meagher and first-year Elliot Miles each drove in a run in their four plate appearances. Meagher, along with junior Mariano Jimenez each tallied hits for extra bases, as they both added a double to their season totals. Sophomore Nick Farnacci contributed a crucial run as a pinch runner. As a unit, the Beacons tallied seven hits in their 35 total at-bats.

After conceding three early in the second inning, Miles drove in the first run for the Beacs in the fourth inning with a single to left field that drove in Meagher.

Down three in the eighth inning, Blake solo-homered to right field to initiate a final late push to level the scoring, as Meagher grounded out to third to bring in Farnacci as the pinch runner.
Farnacci's run would serve as the final as the Beacons fall short on the road against the Beavers.

UMass Boston remains 21-11 this season overall, and 10-3 in conference play, with their next contest scheduled for Thursday, April 25th against the number one team in DIII baseball, the Gulls of Endicott College.
