Beacons Find Sea Legs in Return to New England

BIDDEFORD, M.E. - UMass Boston Men's Lacrosse got back to their winning ways in their return to the Northeast, shutting down the University of New England offense en route to a 15-8 road victory.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 15, University of New England 8

UMass Boston (5-2)
University of New England (3-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons got their offense started as they often do, with a goal from their overpowering midfielder Sean Daly. However, rather than his usual unassisted varietal, Daly got some help from fellow middie Luke Murphy in taking the 1-0 lead.

A pair of UNE goals put the Beacons in the hole, but that deficit was quickly erased by a 5-0 run. Charlie Chapman, one of the team's top returning scorers, got things started with his fifth goal of the year. Greg Wolff provided a pair before Shane McGonagle and Daly took turns to push the lead to 6-2.

After a brief interruption from the Nor'Easters, UMass Boston went right back to work. Zach Mann made good on an extra man opportunity and was followed quickly by Daly completing his hat trick. A late score from Timothy Sullivan and an extra man goal from Mic Flynn in the closing seconds rounded out a 10-spot for the Beacons in the first half.

The Beacons slowed things down in the second half, narrowly outscoring UNE 5-4, but the hot start was all they needed to backup freshman goalie James Boldy who held the Nor'Easters to eight goals on 16 shots.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • After scoring twice in each of his first two games with the team, Daly has recorded a hat trick in five straight
    • Wednesday was the third five-goal performance in his last four games
  • Murphy showed off his versatility, scoring a goal while adding two assists and scooping six ground balls on defense
  • After allowing 18 goals in consecutive games over spring break, Boldly was back to early-season form, recording his fourth game with 10 or fewer goals allowed
  • The Beacons are 10-0 all-time against the Nor'Easters

WHO'S NEXT
The Beacons will hit the North Shore on Saturday, March 23 when they take on the Vikings of Salem State University in Salem at 7 PM. UMass Boston has won their two previous matchups with the Vikings by a combined score of 63-11.
