Milton, MA (March 19, 2024) – The Beacons' softball continues their historic start to their 2024 season full steam ahead, as they completed the doubleheader sweep against the Colonels of Curry College with an 8-0 run-rule victory from Milton, Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon.

Jacqueline Cherry upped her season record to an undefeated 3-0 from the mound this season following her five-inning performance in the victory. She threw for 96 pitches, saw 23 batters, struck out five, and allowed no runs on five hits. 10 of the 12 Beacons who saw plate appearances recorded a hit for a season-high in hits for this season, as this marks the fifth occasion the Beacons were able to record 10 or more hits. Kaitlyn Sawyer, and sophomore
Lauren Miner who each recorded two hits in their combined 13 plate appearances, with Sawyer recording two doubles, and Richland recording a double for herself. First-year
Gracie Granger led the team in RBIs with three, off her triple in the first inning.
The Beacons would take care of business and make quick work of the Colonels in game two of their doubleheader. They would open game two with six unanswered runs in the first inning. The first run was sent by graduate Hayley Tilberry, who singled to right field to score Richland unearned on an error by the Colonels' right-fielder. Tilberry would come across to score off sophomore
Lauryn Bethea's ground out to second base. Sawyer would follow suit with an RBI double to score first-year
Mya Perron, as the Beacons were not done leaving their mark in the first inning. Miner kept the bats rolling with an RBI single to left field to score Sawyer to push the needle to 4-0 in favor of UMass. The final run of the first inning onslaught came from Granger's triple that would score English on the advancement, before heading into the field for the first time, as they led 6-0 at the turn of the inning.
Jacqueline Cherry, backed by the Beacons' defense, held the Colonels scoreless through five innings, before the Beacons struck the final dagger in the fifth inning.
Miner would record her second hit in as many at-bats to record a single up the middle that would score sophomore
Kyleigh Gray, to put them to within one of the eight-run rule. Granger's sac fly to center field would score junior
Mackenzie Cahill for the Beacons' eighth and final run of the game, as the defense continue to held them scoreless for the victory from Milton, MA.
With the sweep today, the Beacons' softball team advances their current win streak to eight, and improves to 10-1 in the season's campaign, with their next matchup slated for Thursday, March 21 against the Bears of Bridgewater State from their home field in Boston, MA.
