NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - UMass Boston Softball wrapped up their spring break trip to Myrtle Beach with their eighth win in nine games. In the finale, an eight run second inning was all the run support
Alexis Fleischer needed to secure her first pitching win with UMass Boston.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 10, FDU Florham 1
UMass Boston (8-1)
FDU Florham (6-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Devils struck first on Friday afternoon, capitalizing on a UMass Boston error to take a 1-0 lead in the first. The Beacons were able to escape without letting up any more damage.
In the second, the Beacons played small ball to do their damage. After
Mya Perron scored on a groundout, UMass Boston quickly stole the lead courtesy of a
Sofie Richland RBI single.
Lauryn Bethea truly cracked the game open with a single of her own to score Haley Tillberry and Richland, stretching the advantage to 5-1.Â
The Beacons' only extra base hit of the second was a double by
Kaitlyn Sawyer that brought them up to their grand total of eight runs after two innings of play. Sawyer would supply another two-run double in the fourth to bring her team up to an even 10 runs.
With her offense playing well behind her, Fleischer generated eight outs on balls in play across the final three innings to secure the run-rule victory for the Beacons.
