Men's Lacrosse Drops Spring Break Opener to Vassar

GEORGETOWN, T.X. - UMass Boston Men's Lacrosse suffered their first defeat of the 2024 season at the hands of Vassar College on Sunday afternoon. The Brewers used a big second quarter run to take the spring break title 18-9.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 9, Vassar College 18

UMass Boston (4-1)
Vassar College (5-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two squads traded haymakers throughout the first quarter. Sean Daly continued to build on a remarkable debut season with an assist to Timothy Sullivan and a goal of his own to bring his season total up to 14. Caesar Hendricks' first score of the year tied the game for the third time before Vassar took a narrow 4-3 lead before the end of the frame.

A pair of Daly goals to round out his third straight hat trick were the only interruptions to an 11-3 Vassar run that included the entirety of the second quarter and then some. With under 10 minutes to play in the third, the Beacons trailed 14-5.

Two more Daly goals brought his total to five on the day, but his efforts, along with a pair of late scores from Mic Flynn were not enough to close the gap.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Daly is tied for the Little East Conference lead with 18 goals on the season
  • Patrick Carey led the way for the Beacons defensively with six ground balls and four caused turnovers
  • Matt Lucozzi won 12 of his 21 faceoffs
  • Neither team scored a goal with an extra player
  • Sunday marked the first ever meeting between UMass Boston and Vassar

WHO'S NEXT
The Beacons will return to the field on Wednesday when they take on the hosting Pirates of Southwestern University. A Gavin Admirand goal in overtime was the difference in the first meeting between the two programs in 2022, a 16-15 victory for the Beacons.
