Mortson’s Brace Lifts Beacons Over Polar Bears

Brunswick, Maine (Dec. 1, 2024) --- The UMass Boston Beacons won a 2-1 thriller in overtime over the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College Sunday afternoon. 

How it Happened 

Jack Mortson and Jazz Krivtsov combined for both Beacons' goals with the first coming at 7:27 in the 1st period. The Beacons would hold the lead for the majority of the game before Isaac Abbott of Bowdoin got one past Tyler Bost while on the power play 12:10 into the 3rd period. The Beacons and Polar Bears would finish regulation in a tie, forcing overtime. The duo of Mortson and Krivtsov would end the game, sending the Beacons home with the win and bringing the team to 3 wins on the season.

  • Tyler Bost made 31 saves in net, 4 of them coming during the overtime period 

  • Zander Lizotte put his body in front of the puck making a game high 4 blocks, 3 more than any other player on the ice. 

  • Mortson also saw success at the faceoff winning 13 for the Beacons

The Beacons return to NEHC competition when they face #12 ranked Skidmore College on December 6th at 7pm at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.
