Boston, MA (Nov. 1, 2024) --- The UMass Boston Beacons opened their season vs no. 8 Curry College, narrowly falling 2-0.
How it Happened
The Beacons and Colonels remained scoreless through 2 periods before the Colonels struck. Grady Friedman was called for tripping putting the Beacons up a skater in the 3rd, but some lucky bounces saw Karim Gayfullin get a breakaway. Gayfullin would score the shorthanded goal, which would end up being the game winning goal.
Roughly four minutes later the Colonels would double their lead thanks to Eelis Laaksonen – assisted by Gage Dill and Manny Cabral.
The Beacons outshot the Colonels in the first (10-8) and third (12-5) but weren't able to find the back of the net past Shane Soderwall. For the Beacons, Tyler Bost got the start and made 28 saves.
