Beacons Drop Non-Conference Matchup on the Road

BIDDEFORD, ME (October 9, 2024) The UMass Boston Beacons were held scoreless in the first half by the Nor'easters of UNE. The contest did not favor the Beacs as they fell to the University of New England Nor'easters by a final score of 4 to 1.

The Basics

Final Score: UMB 1 - 4 UNE

UMass Boston: 8-2-3 (3-0-0 LEC)

UNE: 9-4-0 (2-1-0 CNE)

How It Happened

  • The opening score of tonight's game came in the 27th minute by UNE's Karley Belisle (Plainfield, CT) who was assisted by Morgan Deifenbach (Lancaster, MA).

  • It took nearly thirty five minutes of game time until another goal was scored. Lindsey Butler (Pelham, N.H.) of UNE scored in the 63rd minute coming off the assist by Tori Keyes (Hooksett, N.H.).

  • Just before the 80th minute Tori Keyes put another shot in the back of the net for the Nor'easters.

  • Finally in the 89th minute of the match the Beacons got on the scoreboard via sophomore midfielder Cloe Kapetanakos (Weymouth, MA) assisted the goal scored by Amanda Regan (Pepperell, MA).

  • UNE put the match to bed just moments behind the Beacons' score. Lily Carreiro (Salem, N.H.) scored in the 89th and a half minute from the assist by UNE's Marah Walton (Paoli, PA).

By The Numbers

  • The Beacons struggled to get any offense going which is evident from the eight total shots they had, with just three on goal. Meanwhile the Nor'easters amassed a 26 shot game, 14 of which were on goal.

  • UMass was put on the defensive early due to the yellow card received by senior midfielder Georgia Bonney (Kingston, MA) in the 29th minute. Despite UMB only committing four fouls all game, compared to the nine fouls by UNE, the Beacs were slow to find their footing.

  • Senior netminder Isabella O'Connell (Abington, MA) was in the goal for the Beacons for all 90 minutes of the game and had 10 saves in that time.

Who's Next?

  • UMass Boston will travel to Keene, New Hampshire this Saturday, October 12th. The Owls of Keene State University will host the UMass Boston Beacons at 1pm on Dr. Ron Butcher Field.
