Box Score Weymouth, MA (Oct. 5, 2024) --- The UMass Boston women's tennis team defeated Rhode Island College at the Weymouth Club 5-4 to remain undefeated in LEC action.
In what was their most competitive competition yet this season, the Beacons were able to hold off the Anchorwoman for the senior day win.
The Basics
Beacons: 8-2 (Overall), 5-0 (Conference)
Anchorwomen: 13-1 (Overall), 6-1 (Conference)
Doubles
The Beacons were perfect in their doubles matches with each pair coming out victorious. The combo of Zainab Patel and Lydia Chan defeated Lauren Macera and Erica Botelho in the first spot. In #2 Doubles, seniors Ayonna Stuppard and Elena Albano took down Emilia Houwers and Haylie Peacock and in #3 Doubles, Sandra Watson paired with Tatiana Malone to defeat Amara Devine and Amiah Sommer 8-6.
Singles
Singles proved to be the more difficult battle as the Anchorwoman were able to collect wins in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th spot. Zainab Patel and Lydia Chan, however, were able to get victories in their matches and help the Beacons to an overall team win. Patel was pitted against Lauren Macera in #1 Singles where she got the win 6-1, 6-1. Chan, in the 2nd spot, got the better of Erica Botelho 6-1, 7-5.
